This Week in Our Classroom

Phonics
This week in phonics students will be learning about letters in words and how letters put together make words.

Reading
In reading this week students will be practicing listening to a story and being able to tell what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Guided Reading
Students will be practicing reading each word on the page and begin learning kindergarten sight words.  The words we are working on this week are: can, like, I, the, and to. Students who do not know all their letters will be working on letter recognition during this time as well.

Writing
In writing students will continue working on telling a story that has a beginning, middle, and end.  The beginning of the story should be who is in the story and where it took place. The middle of the story should be about what happened. The end of the story should be about how you felt.

Math
In math students will be working on counting forward and backward by ones to 20 and recognizing and writing teen numbers.

Learning Team Meetings
Learning Team Meetings are this week. I look forward to meeting with you!

Special Notes
Count Day - is this Wednesday. Please make sure your child is at school on time on Count Day. All classes that have perfect attendance will receive a special treat.
Field Trip Money due - this Friday, October 5.
Homework Folders - Make sure you send your child's homework folder to school with them every day and check the folder for notes or homework every night. We typically have homework Monday-Thursday.  Also, take out papers that are checked with a star, stamp, or sticker so that the folder won't be cluttered and unorganized.
