This Week in Our Classroom

Phonics
This week in phonics students will be learning about rhyming words and syllables in words.

Reading
In reading this week students will be learning how to figure out the meaning of unknown words in a story by using clues from the text.

Guided Reading
Students will be practicing reading each word on the page and begin learning kindergarten sight words.  The words we are working on this week are: can, like, and my. Students who do not know all their letters will be working on letter recognition during this time as well.

Writing
In writing students will begin working on labeling the pictures they draw to tell a story. They will be labeling their pictures by writing the sounds they hear in words.

Math
In math students will continue working on counting forward and backward by ones to 20 and recognizing and writing teen numbers. Students will start working on counting by tens to 100.

Blake's Apple Orchard Field Trip
Our field trip to the apple orchard is this Friday. Students must bring a lunch to school on this day in a paper or plastic bag. Students can wear free dress for the field trip. Please make sure they are dressed comfortably and appropriately for the weather.
