This Week in Our Classroom

Phonics
This week in phonics students will be learning about how letters are formed and will be working on writing lower case letters.  Throughout the day we will continue to work on knowing all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that each letter makes.

Reading
In reading this week students will be learning about what makes a story fiction.  Students will learn that fictional stories are made up and can include elements that are make-believe, such as animals that talk or people who can fly.

Guided Reading
This week, I will begin meeting with students in small groups to read.  Students will be learning to read each word on the page and begin learning kindergarten sight words. Students who do not know all their letters will be working on letter recognition during this time as well.
Writing
In writing students will be practicing telling a story orally, then being able to illustrate the story and label the picture with the first letter of a word or by sounding out a word.

Math
In math students will be working on identifying and writing numbers 7-10 and knowing the quantity that each number represents. Students are also practicing counting from 1 to 100 orally.
